Frozen Fever is a 7-minute animated short from Disney Animated Studios that accompanied 2015's Cinderella adaptation. It's a brief but brilliant revisit to the world of the 2013 smash hit, Frozen that is almost worth the price of admission by itself.
The premise is simple - Elsa has recruited the help of Olaf, Kristoff and Sven in throwing Anna a very special birthday party where everything is perfect. She's even laid out a miniature treasure hunt so that her sister can the day following the clues to find her presents.
However, not everything goes to plan as Elsa starts to come down with - yep, you guessed it - a cold. Oh, the irony of the Snow Queen suffering from the sniffles.
You see, because Elsa has the power to create life (still a very ambiguous selection of powers this girl has), every sneeze spawns multiple mini-snowmen (called 'Snowgies') that zip around and generally cause all sorts of mayhem to unfold.
So, whilst Elsa refuses to admit she's sick and determinedly ploughs on with the treasure hunt, it's up to Olaf, Kristoff and Sven to defend the birthday cake and decorations from the rampaging Snowgies.
It's a cute premise that suits the bitesize runtime - seeing as the characters are so well-known by now, the short just jumps right in and feels like an additional epilogue to the film.
The new song that accompanies Frozen Fever is called 'Making Today a Perfect Day' and I thought it was pretty good. It's merry, catchy and skips along as the two sisters go about their treasure hunt. I liked that the short was again, primarily about the girls. Kristoff continues to get sidelined but Anna and Elsa are a really sweet duo that step outside convention when it comes to Disney princess films. It's great to see Disney focusing on that sister relationship and love instead.

I feel a bit weird about scoring a short film which is only 7 minutes long but Frozen Fever is so great that you feel kind of sad when it comes to close so soon. It doesn't entirely convince me that a entire Frozen sequel is worth doing though - it'd have to be pretty magical to outshine the first film. I guess what makes Frozen Fever so good is the sense that everything is resolved and this is 'happily ever after' every Disney fairytale promises. Where can the characters go in a sequel? I'm sure the writers will come up with something but it'll have to be something special.
My kids loved this. I still haven't seen it, but I love these characters, so I'm game!
